OSI/BSAS - Project BOOST

The Danya Institute received a grant from the Open Society Institute in 2003, to improve treatment outcomes through a technology transfer project for the Baltimore Substance Abuse Systems (BSAS). Project Boost provided a multi-tiered approach to this project. Based on our experience with technology transfer, and the needs presented by BSAS we were able to achieve our goals by incorporating a systems change model that targeted:

  • program directors
  • clinical supervisors
  • front line clinical staff.

Program goals:

  • Worked with BSAS, their Scientific Advisory Committee, and other selected stakeholders to plan a two-year training and technical assistance program designed to enhance the treatment outcomes of programs in Baltimore.
  • Delivered training on basic counseling skills for front-line staff that will improve their knowledge and competencies.
  • Provided ongoing technical assistance to BSAS agencies that should lead to knowledge application and adoption of basic counseling skills.
  • Provided a forum for program directors on workforce development issues that supported the technology transfer activities and foster systems change.
  • Worked with other staff, including clinical supervisors, on the knowledge dissemination and application activities.
